Mutiple Thefts of deviantART Stock Models: UpdatedCurrent Update, Feb 9: It seems that the artworks created with the DA stock models have been taken down from all sites. This is good news! I hope the artist will be in touch with the models they have used. It seems possible through what I've heard from these models in their research that this artist may have found these images on a 'free stock' site. Please be aware of any site that is set up with a huge variety of fabulous, high quality images for commercial use, for free. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

An Italian artist has been using stock images from DA's portrait models as the source of her professional work without notifying the models or crediting them. In most cases, these models do not allow commercial use of their stock without permission.

Why you feature stolen work?!?!Lately there seem to have been a few myths flying around in particular with regards to how we as Community Volunteers, give Daily Deviations. Many people seem to think that we sit at our desks in dark little rooms and let out evil laughter whilst we purposefully feature stolen work. The dark rooms and laughter - well I can't say yes or no on that one! But I can promise you it's not our intent to give exposure to people who have stolen work. I recently featured a piece of work that turned out to be stolen. However I went into extensive conversations with the artist before I featured it, and with added metadata and dates, it's difficult to know where to draw the line. I've given people the benefit of the doubt before - and it's worked out nicely as their work has been legitimate. Below are some comments I have seen being thrown around the past few days - and hopefully an attempt to bust the myth.

Update on KatieSo, after several days of "she'll probably come home tomorrow," Katie finally came home. She is still sick, but she no longer needs to be on oxygen, so she is resting on the couch, taking medicine, and watching movie after movie.

Over the past few days, you all have proved what a positive thing the internet can be. Without my mother, there wouldn't be an artist named Zelda C. Wang
She is everything to me. Recently she has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and several other health problems. It's overwhelming and highly stressful for her, yet instead of concerning about her health, she worries about the medical expense more...

My mother raised three kids by herself, but never complained about her stress and workload.
The artwork depicts my childhood memory of her, always working late into the night to pay the bills and feed the family.

My mother has always been supportive and proud of me. I am happy being who I am right now and it's because of my mother. She allowed me to come to this world and allowed me to pursue my dream of becoming an artist.

I will keep doing what I do best with this gift of talent she gave me. I will keep drawing and promoting my works, because I could REALLY use the monthly funding from Manga Magazine now... If you could help in any way, please do. Either by contribution or share the page, I'm forever grateful!
